Worcester Bravehearts Beat Westfield Behind Three Homers
Thursday, July 09, 2020
The team is one of the few sports teams playing in the Commonwealth.
Westfield came back in the bottom of the sixth. Drew DeMartino walked and Mark Coley singled. Then, Eric Callahan singled home DeMartino to tie the game 1-1.
The score remained even until the top of the eighth when Ben Rice homered to left-center field to put Worcester back on top 2-1. Danny Torres added another solo home run in the top of the ninth for insurance. Torres’ home run was the 200th in Bravehearts history.
Bravehearts starter Cole Chudoba pitched three shutout innings, walking one and striking out one. Westfield starting pitcher Anthony Redfern went 3 2/3 innings, the only hit against him being the Exposito home run. Redfern walked three and struck out five.
Picking up the win was Brendan Desautels. He pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three. The loss went to Andrew Roman, who went 1 1/3 innings, giving up the Rice solo home run and striking out four. Carson Hauben notched the save for Worcester, tossing a scoreless ninth.
The Bravehearts are on the road again Thursday, when they play the Nashua Silver Knights at Holman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
